Boob hat for baby
Created by 22-year-old Sara Hanson, Boobie Beanies are handmade, 100-percent organic, and available in a variety of skin tones and nipple colors. Hanson makes baby, kid, and even adult-sized hats, which folks have worn to events like breast cancer benefit runs and midwifery conferences.
When I first saw the hats, I laughed out loud. I wish I’d had one when my babies were younger, though I might not have had the gumption to use it while nursing in public. (I’m more of a nursing cover gal myself.) Still, I love these as a cheeky yet good-natured response to those who are “offended” by breastfeeding.
But Hanson, who’s training to be a doula, says she isn’t out to make a political statement. She crocheted her first Boobie Beanie as a gag gift for a new-mom friend, posted a picture on her Facebook page, and was surprised when the requests for hats started rolling in. Now Hanson has almost 1,000 Facebook fans and a steady stream of orders.
“It started as just a fun way to keep my hands busy while I watched TV, but it’s really taken off. I love seeing the response from people,” Hanson says.
Whether you’re a breastfeeding mama or not, these make super-cute baby shower gifts and warm, cozy hats for babies and bigger kids. You can find Boobie Beanies for $15 on Etsy.
